HORSERACING TV ONSITE AT BELMONT FOR CURLIN'S RECORD-BREAKING ATTEMPT
Elmont, NY, Sept. 22 -- HorseRacing TV (TM) (HRTV) will be onsite at Belmont Park this Saturday to provide live, comprehensive coverage as reigning Horse of the Year Curlin looks to make Thoroughbredbred racing history in the 90th running of the Grade 1, $750,000 Jockey Club Gold Cup.
HRTV's Scott Hazelton will be joined by Hall of Fame jockey, and HRTV analyst Gary Stevens, as Curlin takes aim at Cigar's all-time earnings record in one of racing's signature races, which is contested at 1 1/4 miles.
Rated the number one Thoroughbred in the world, and the winner of five Grade 1 races, Curlin has banked over $9.7 million in a brilliant career, looks to top the $10 million mark, and eclipse Cigar's earnings mark -- which is above $9.9 million.
In addition to providing complete day-long coverage of Curlin's quest -- as well as a tremendous stakes-ladened card at Belmont -- Hazelton and Stevens will contribute to HRTV's daily "RaceDay America" show, which previews the day's racing action from across the country, and begins at Noon ET/9 a.m. PT.
"HRTV has chronicled Curlin's entire year, literally around the world, so it is fitting that we will be at Belmont for this possible historic day," said Amy J. Zimmerman, executive producer for HRTV. "The Jockey Club Gold Cup is always an outstanding race, which has provided many memories over the years. Belmont has done a tremendous job in putting together a spectacular racing card, which promises to be among the best days of racing this year."
The network's full-day presence will include the latest develpments, and up-to-date information on the day's Belmont action, as well as key interviews, and expert analysis. Four additional Grade 1 races are slated for Belmont on Saturday -- the $600,000 Joe Hirsch Turf Classic, the $600,000 Flower Bowl Invitational, the $600,000 Beldame, and the $400,000 Vosburgh.
HRTV will air MSG Plus' live, half-hour coverage of the Gold Cup, which will also include insights from Stevens, beginning at 5:30 p.m. ET/2:30 p.m. PT.
Hazelton and Stevens will return at 6 p.m. ET/3 p.m. PT to cap the network's coverage with an in-depth recap of the Gold Cup, as well as analysis of all the stakes action.
"We are pleased to work with MSG Plus to present the Gold Cup," said Zimmerman. "They have an excellent relationship with NYRA and they worked together on the Woodward telecast. HRTV is looking forward to helping them build that relationship."
