Value abounds, but not where you might think it is…
As summer rolls into full swing I am reminded of so many wagering opportunities that are still overlooked. While most people focus on the “big” tracks—Saratoga and Del Mar—I like to focus on the “value” tracks. Let’s talk about a couple of them…
Delaware Park: Still one of my favorites. Top-notch horses, trainers and riders peppered with tremendous value make this track one to watch and wager on. A stomping ground for good maidens (yes, pedigree snobs—for you, too), turf horses that can wire fields when applicable, good form and great value.
Laurel Park: You’d be surprised at how many overlays you’ll find watching “the same horses and riders doing the same thing.” Not the case at all. Pay attention to shippers, watch connections, and just plain old-fashioned handicap and you should cash many an overlay.
Penn National: This slot-infused track is offering up a virtual smorgasbord of value plays. Huge purses are luring a better cut of horse, a stronger riding colony and new barns to pepper what already was a solid colony of horsemen. If you like shippers and are tired of the same old dirt/sprint reruns in your backyard, this is a track to follow.
Saratoga will always be a favorite for me. The long-distance turf racing always offers much value—a more cerebral handicap. If you put the time in and go beyond Captain Obvious you will be rewarded. And remember…it’s not called “the graveyard of champions” for nothing!
So, think “out of the box” this summer and have fun cashing some bets in the process!
