Born in Richfield, Minnesota, Becky grew up going to the races with her parents on the weekends and quickly became hooked on racing. When she turned 16, she obtained her first racetrack job working as a Hotwalker for Richard Mandella at Del Mar. She flew to San Diego each summer where her uncle provided her with a place to stay. During her school years, she spent the first half of the summer atCanterbury Park working for trainers Tony Rengstorf and David Van Winkle before moving onto Del Mar to work for Mandella. She continued this pattern until graduating from college.

Witzman's college years were spent at the University of Arizona's Race Track Industry Program. There she majored in Animal Sciences and minored in Business Management. During her studies, she had the opportunity to spend one semester studying abroad at the University of Limerick in Ireland. Her time in Ireland was spent studying Equine Science and she had the chance to learn about racing in Europe.

Upon graduation from college, Witzman immediately began working full time for Mandella. In her seven years with Mandella, she worked her way up from a Hotwalker to an Assistant Trainer. While working for Mandella she was around many top horses including Pleasantly Perfect, Halfbridled, Johar, Gentleman and Siphon. In December 2004, she left life on the backside for the opportunity to join HRTV.
